Traffic Panic 3D is an exciting traffic management simulation game for Android. You essentially control the traffic lights at a busy intersection. There is a steady flow of traffic coming from the left hand side and you must enable an oncoming safe route through this. Get it right and traffic flows smoothly, get it wrong and expect massive 3D crashes!

Price: Free, with optional In-app Purchases

Tested on: HTC Desire HD

Pros

Gorgeous 3D graphics!Exciting and addictive gameplay!Brilliant crashes!Immersive traffic sounds!

Cons

In-app purchases are a bit hit and miss.

Traffic Panic 3D lets you control the traffic at a busy intersection. You are responsible for the traffic coming from below, and you must navigate it through the oncoming traffic from the left. Gameplay is incredibly simple, all you have to do is control the traffic lights; red and green. As the traffic gets busier, it becomes more challenging to let the vehicles through.

Vehicles!

There are a diverse selection of vehicles too, and some impact gameplay in cool ways. For example police cars and ambulances force the oncoming traffic to stop, allowing you some space. Taxis however are very impatient and will sound their horn constantly! These, and other vehicles, can be unlocked via either accumulating enough points during the game or via in-app purchases. In all these include: taxi, police car, das sporta, trailer, italiano, ambulance, fuel tanker and even a tank!

Buildings!

You can also add new buildings to the cityscape. Again these are unlockable and include: gas station, car showroom, firework factory and demolition site. As you might be able to tell by now, there are some quite tasty combinations here; wanna see a fuel tanker crash into a firework factory? Yes please!

This is where the graphics are exceptional. Beautifully rendered 3D, the shuddering crashes and smashes are just fantastic. The camera usually swoops in for a closer shot of the carnage too. Even the crashes are rewarding, because although you have been unsuccessful in managing the traffic, you win extra credits for a big and devastating pile up.

Recent Problems

There have been various reports and reviews in the Android Market regarding two specific issues that Traffic Panic 3D suffered from. Firstly, if you created a crash with a fuel tanker, the game itself would crash. Even worse it would also crash your device! Furthermore there were a number of reports that in-app purchases didn’t work properly. Now, when I used the in-app purchasing system it worked fine, although at one point I was told it hadn’t worked when it in fact had. I’ve corresponded with the developer regarding the ‘literal’ crashes which tied in neatly with their latest game update, which rectifies this problem. Now you can shepherd as many fuel tankers into each other as you like, without fear of device meltdown! :D

Watch on Mobile

What isn’t fun about narrowly avoiding a massive pile up but the skin of your bumper, only to then accidentally cause a truly amazing smash up that takes out a nearby firework factory? The game is a superb combination of simple gameplay, cool graphics and immersive sounds. This makes for a thoroughly and enjoyable experience… unless you’re a traffic cop, in which case this is your very worst nightmare carefully recreated into a spectacular 3D Android game.

Traffic Panic 3D is hugely addictive. Being able to accumulate a great score for successfully negotiating high levels of traffic is rewarding enough, but to get extra points for then creating such widespread devastation is a massive bonus. You win either way! There is also Openfeint scoring with the game so you can share you traffic management (in)competence with your friends!

The graphics in the game are genuinely superb. When the camera shot swoops in to see the nasty pileup there’s all manner of detailed wreckage and fire to see. Mid-game visuals are are also incredibly smooth and fluid.

The game is complimented by a wide variety of sound effects from various vehicles, plus some pretty cool crash noises too. Very realistic and highly immersive. Menus are backed up by a pretty cool music track too, so the whole package works very well indeed.
