Sprint Gives LightSquared 6 Weeks To Make Right With The FCC And Begin Delivering 4G LTE For 2015

Sprint and LightSquared were all set on their venture to begin delivering 4G LTE to Sprint’s customer base however, there’s one small stepping stone.  And by small, I mean huge as heck.  The FCC has presented quite the challenge in a number of areas for LightSquared primarily in regards to an alleged GPS interference issue.  The entire ordeal has moved to the FCC inquiring public approval before moving forward.  However, Sprint isn’t allowing the matter to linger any longer than it needs to. The carrier would still like to use LightSquared to assist in rolling out 4G LTE speeds to its customers however, they’ve given the company a deadline of six weeks to straighten matters out before they look elsewhere for services.  The folks over at BGR managed to get a statement from LightSquared:

“Sprint and LightSquared have agreed to extend our network agreement through mid March. Sprint continues to support our business plan to bring wireless broadband to more than 260 million Americans and our ongoing efforts to work with regulatory agencies to resolve interference concerns.”

So, stay tuned to Talk Android as we see if LightSquared can reconcile things with the FCC by mid March.  Im sure there is a plethora of Sprint customers that would love to see 4G LTE speeds on their network, 260 million to be exact.

Notion Ink Gives Explanation of TI OMAP over Nvidia Tegra for Adam II

On the 21st of  this month we brought to you an article about Notion Ink‘s sequel tablet the Adam II and how it would be packing an OMAP processor. This is a complete change up to the Tegra platform they were running in their original Adam tablet. A lot of folk begin to question the change from one processor to the next. In fact, they’ve been questioned enough to release an official statement explaining the reason they made that switch. While we could argue various semantics with benchmarks, memory bandwidth and so on, what really matters is how the power is utilized. In the end this is the argument that was used by Notion Ink.

The main reason that they made the switch from Nvidia to TI is because they think that they can get a lot more mileage out of the chipset. In most documentations, white papers, etc TI’s OMAP comes out as top dog. If this is coupled with OMAP’s better battery life you have yourself a good reason to switch. Tegra 3 quad-core is built using a 40nm fabrication process while the new OMAP 5 chips uses a smaller 28nm process. This makes them cheaper to produce and sell to possible manufacturers while also consuming less power.

While right now this all looks good on paper, we will have to see it in a real world application in order to say one way or another. Stay tuned as we find out more information on this sequel device!

Samsung Gives the UK a Valentines Day Gift — The Pink Galaxy S II

Last November, Samsung announced that they would be making a pink version of the widely popular Galaxy S II, and since then it has landed in South Korea, Sweden, and most recently Taiwan. Well, apparently those three countries aren’t the only countries that look pretty in pink as Sammy just announced the flesh-toned phone will be heading to the UK as well, and just in time for Valentines day.

As we mentioned before, the specs of the device will remain the same, and according to Phones 4 U, should be available on February 13th. The phone will run a reasonably priced £21.50 a month on a two-year contract. For those who want a contract-free pink SGSII, online retailer Very will sell you one for £499.99 so they must be pretty proud of this phone to be selling it at that price! Currently Very lists the device as available, but in reality they are awaiting shipment and the phone should arrive within the next week.

This would most definitely make for a great Valentines day gift, or would be good for any dudes out there who think pink is punk. Anyone want one?
